Welcome. You've reached Boomie's page.

A few notes before you go further:

  • For those of you who know me already, yes, my old email address is still active and still works.

    A LITTLE BACKGROUND:

I am a Nigerian female. Some people think I sound male over the phone, but to the best of my knowledge, I've always been female. My parents claim I was born that way, and they don't lie. (So far, nobody thinks I look male, even with my new short haircut.) This page is filled with more pictures that you can view, but I am in most of them, so view them at your own risk!!!

    MY FAMILY:
Here is a (somewhat old) picture of me with my immediate family (mom, dad, sisters and brother) in a more festive Nigerian outfit. Most of them are not on the Internet, and I have promised (with some pretty persuasive measures) not to reveal anything about anyone else, not even names. Suffice it to know that these people are unfortunate enough to have me in the family, yet we all love each other, and thank God for each other, no matter what we say!

    BOOMIE
    THE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW!!!

(also known as "Answers to the most commonly asked questions")
Is that my REAL name? No. My real first name is Olubunmi which means "God gave me as a gift", it's short form is 'Bunmi', but the N'' is silent making it sound like 'Boomie', and that has kind of caught on as a nickname. I am really surprised to find that some other 'Bunmi's spell misspell their name the same way, for pronunciation reasons.
What is my last name? Hmmm. Can't remember.
What do I look like? There are more recent pictures of me all over this page, but here is an old head shot and an old full-body shot. Besides that, I am 5'2" and have been since early teens, and I weigh about 105 pounds (give or take a few...but that's what my license says, so that's what I say!). I am almost the most vertically challenged person in the family (for those of you who are not in the United States, 'vertically-challenged' is the politically-correct form of saying 'short'), but I am still the oldest child, and they know it!
How old am I? My birth date is August 15, 1972, so I am still 25.
Do I have any children? picture of baby Not to my knowledge, but I'm usually the last to be told.
Do I have any pets? animated cat Only if you count siblings.
Where do I live? Somewhere in the Universe.
So how often do I get to visit Nigeria? Not often enough. :-(
What do I do for a living? Software Engineer or some variation of that. animated whacker
Also, I own BOW Web Services.
So, what have I done with my life? Well, basically...I was born, and I went to school. (No, not the very next day.) I used to be known as a "bookworm".
    animated bookworm
I went to elementary school in the United States (the "cold" Midwest), then we went back to Nigeria, where I went to high school. Then I came back to the United States. I went to college, where I fooled them into giving me a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, then graduate school where I fooled them into giving me a MS degree in Computer Science.

Eventually I graduated, worked, started a business, and moved to outer space, as the picture at the top shows.
Did I ever really graduate? girl graduating waving Well, there are pictures and diplomas to prove it. diploma
    There might even be witnesses.
Do I have fun? (yes, I get asked this question) Of course I do. All work and no play makes Boomie a ...(what was it again?)
What are some of the things I enjoy for fun?
    dancing baby
Spending time with family; whether immediate family, extended family, or honorary family. (Here is an old picture of my immediate family, and a newer picture of me and my cousins, both old pictures). I have a great family, and great friends that I thank God for (I also thank him for the bad ones).

I enjoy a wide range of activities, and am willing to try most things not harmful, dangerous, or bad. Right now, I know I like music, reading, writing, movies, humor, theater, arts and crafts, museums, zoos, skiing, dancing, rollerblading/rollerskating, traveling, sightseeing, fairs and festivals, pool, ping-pong, bowling, camping, puzzles and games...I also collect postcards. (Liking something does NOT mean that I am good at it, just that I enjoy it.). Also, I used to do a little 'modeling' for David (don't worry, there's not anything on me that the children can not see).

Also, I try to be good about exercising. (Remember, exercising is not only for losing weight. My main goal is to get strong enough to carry the world on my shoulders.)
    skeleton
So I have good eyesight? winking eyes No. My vision is only 20/21! (I'm the only one in my family that doesn't need glasses for ANY purpose, and that is fuel to the "Bunmi must be adopted!" argument.)
Do I eat? (yes, I actually get asked this question) No, there are too many diseases you can catch from food, so I just choose not to eat.

Of course I eat!!!! I learned a long time ago that if you don't, you get hungry, and that is not a good feeling, not to mention you could get a hunger-headache.
Do I like chocolate a lot? chocolate cake Absolutely not!!! People think I do though. They don't realize that I HAVE TO eat it to maintain my skin color...it's not a pleasure thing!
Do I sleep? working late gif No. It's such a waste of time. In the few hours of sleeping, do you realize how much work you could be getting done, or fun you could be having? (I'm kidding of course.)
    Am I a good girl?

blinking angelAbsolutely! Why else would Santa Claus come to my home personally to give me gifts? You don't believe me? Well, here's my proof! Yes, I did visit Alcatrez once, but it was as a tourist, and not as a prisoner!!!

Do I like parentheses a lot? Apparently. :-)
Do I 'chat' or 'talk' online? chatterbox No.
How many languages do I speak? 1.5
Fluent in English, semi-fluent in Yoruba, and remember a few sentences of French. Someday, I intend to re-learn that since a lot of African countries are French-speaking, and I would really like to travel more of Africa someday (then the world)!
What kind of music do I like? I like many different genres excluding heavy metal and most rap (yes, there are 'black' people who don't like rap), but especially Nigerian, Reggae, other African, R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, Light Rock, Jazz, some Classical, some Country (yes, I said Country)...I have sound samples from some Nigerian albums here, and links to some general music sites here.
What kind of movies do I like? Comedies are my favorites, but I also like drama, mystery, light action, and I am open to watching other types except for horror and sleaze. Though I have not tried many of them, there are some online links to movies and videos here on my links page.
Who used to do my hair? (It used to always be braided in some way or another, and for many reasons, I went to a short haircut...I was not brave enough to try the bald look!) In the past, it was me and my sisters, or my aunt. Of course, we had the intention of teaching my brother too (just kidding bro).
Will I do your hair too? Probably not. I'm too busy.
Did I really get a haircut?
Yup. Yes. B'eni. Affirmative. This is not the best picture, but it's the only one I currently have: short haircut
So, what's it like in Nigeria? I have a huge site on Nigeria that should answer any questions you have. There is a link below that will take you to my site on Nigeria if you don't want to leave this interview section right now.
I have a question on Nigeria or need to know where to get Nigerian products/services, whether or not I am in Nigeria. Motherland Nigeria is much bigger than I ever expected it to be, and though it does not contain everything anyone could look for, it is quite extensive and provides many links to other sites and resources, including some Nigerian businesses and organizations, places to buy food or dine, and much much more. Please check it before contacting me directly. If you don't find what you are looking for in the table of contents, then please try the search page, and if you still don't find it, there are ways to post a question (a question ON Nigeria, or a question looking for somebody specific).
Am I rich? briefcase of money No, but I'm not poor, don't have expensive tastes, don't try to live outside of my means, and I thank God for what I have. When I have to choose between making money and having fun, I choose the latter.
I said I find creating my web site fun, and that I used to be called a bookworm. Am I a nerd??? Well, I took a few nerd tests on the internet, and I am happy to say that I failed them. This is a hobby that turned into a business, and not an addiction.
Besides Nigerian food, what other kinds of food do I like? That's a difficult question. The easy answer is almost anything but seafood (I do like some fish and some shrimp, but that's about it for seafood). I think my favorites (and I haven't tried everything yet) would be Indian, Caribbean, Mexican, Italian, Thai, Chinese....
Do I have any information on where to get immigration information online? Sure. It's right here on my links page.
What else do I have links on? links Depends on when you are looking at this. I have many links to both informational sites as well as fun sites. If you really want to know, then find out for yourself.
Can you link to one or more of my pages? As long as your page does not contain content I would not want to be associated with, it would be fine by me. For linking to the Motherland Nigeria site, you can even use these logos.
Will I link to your page? If it is relevant to information about Nigeria, then yes. For businesses, please visit the businesses page, for organizations, please visit the organizations page For all others, email me.
What tools did I use to create these pages? For writing the HTML, most of the tools I tried did not really meet my expectations, so I decided to do it the old-fashioned way and write the HTML code myself. Hey! I'm a fast-typing programmer anyway okay, so it doesn't take THAT long! If you know of an inexpensive tool that can read existing HTML, I'll try it, otherwise, I'm not complaining.
How fast do I type? I'm not sure. But a co-worker nicknamed me "chicken fingers", because he said listening to me type is like hearing a gaggle of chickens feeding. Don't worry...I have a name for him too. :-)
Will I build your site? You can visit BOW Web Services to find out what I do and what I don't do, and to request a quote.

If you are looking for a free site, here is a link of free stuff to use on your homepages, and some of them have places where you can get a web site for free.
Will I teach you HTML? I've been asked on multiple occasions to help people with HTML. While I don't have time to teach everyone, I have given a few training sessions on the basics, and you can find the handout from that here. The book I recommend is "HTML Goodies", which you can get from many online bookstores, including Amazon.com and BarnesAndNoble.com. Of course, you can find many other online tutorials by searching the search engines.

But, if you want to pay me to come in and teach a group of people, then email me.
Will I teach you Java? Are you kidding? I would suggest taking a course from Sun, or a local class. However, if you are the "teach yourself" type who already knows basic programming concepts, I really recommend "A Programmer's Guide to Java Certification", which you can get at Amazon.com or BarnesAndNoble.com. Sorry, I will not sell my copy.
I seem to be hung up on Nigeria. Is this the case? Do I hang out with people who are not Nigerian? I am 100% Nigerian, so naturally, I'm going to talk about my country and about my heritage, of which I am proud.

In terms of who I hang out with, I like good, decent people, no matter what their race, color, height, hair color, nose size, number of fingers and toes, etc. etc., and my friends are from all over the world (and once I meet some good, decent aliens, I can say they are all over the galaxy).
Do I make money off of the MotherlandNigeria site? Of course!!!! Since I started building it in 1998, I've maybe made about $100, not counting expenses!!!!!
So, why do I do it? Well, beside the obvious reason of insanity, there is also the fact that I like it, I make a difference (even if it is a small one), I find it fun, I'm learning a lot, I get to be creative...
How much email do I get a day? bottle email Plenty (not counting other means of communication). I try to reply as soon as I can, but with the volume I get, and the fact that I am NOT on the computer all day, don't be offended if I don't get back to you right away. Also, to help me get a handle of my email, please see my contact page before emailing me, remembering that the information there is for MotherlandNigeria.com and not for BOW Web Services.
Do I spend ALL my time on the computer? If after reading all this, you still think so, then okay.

    MY MOTHERLAND: my logo

Either link above will take open up a new page with more information. The basics are that Nigeria is in West Africa, close to the equator, and bordered on the south by the Atlantic Ocean. It is highly populated, hot, developed, and if you want to know more, check out the link! I even have music, pictures, language samples, and much much more. (To open it in the current window, click here.)
