The Federal Ministry of Power and Steel, in cooperation with the Energy Commission of Nigeria,

U.S. Department of Energy, The World Bank, ESMAP, and U.S. Agency for International Development, is pleased to announce a national workshop on Energizing Rural Transformation in Nigeria: Scaling Up Electricity Access and Renewable Energy Market Development.  The workshop will be held at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, March 19-20, 2001, in Abuja, Nigeria.

 

Workshop participants will share fresh approaches to rural electrification and the use of energy for rural transformation.  More specifically, the workshop will bring together panelists and audience members who represent a wide array of stakeholders to:

 

Ř      Accelerate the development of the nation’s vision for scaling up electricity access in underserved areas;

Ř      Identify key principles that will frame the policy and institutional framework for mounting a large-scale rural energy program;

Ř      Formulate strategies to cost-effectively develop renewable and clean energy resources, while supporting the twin objectives of poverty reduction and environmental improvement; and

Ř      Apply lessons learned and best practices from other countries to inform Nigeria’s strategy for scaling up energy access for rural transformation.
